lost in the music...

is it possible to be completely in love with something... after only seeing / experiencing it once?

i don't know if i'd consider it "love at first sight," but there was definately this wierd sort of... "yeah, i'm really diggin this" type of feeling the first time i experienced it. the good thing is that i'm not talking about illegal narcotics, and definately not about another woman! cripe, my wife amy was with me that "first time!" i'm gonna go out on a limb and spill it!

i'm in love with a record store!

i'm a tool, i know. but every since amy and i took a trip down to louisville about 5 or 6 years ago, i've been constantly thinking about this place! and the more i think about it, the more i've been meaning to get back there!

earX-tacy could, quite possibly, be the coolest retail establishment i've ever been to. pretty lofty, i know. but as the years go by... and i receive the weekly newsletter seeing the goodies they have on the shelves that week, and the artists playing around louisville... coupled with the lineup of musicians making stops by to play live in the store... this longing inside me grows to go back to louisville! crazy thing is... i'm not a vinyl junkie, or a collector of rare stuff. i'm just a guy who finds refuge in a really good band! and it if it's a band that i can share with someone else... who's never heard of them... well than my work here is done.

christening...

hey... here's the first official blog post for my personal blog, "On the Shoulders of Giants."

topics in the posts to follow will include social media, marketing, advertising... as well as music, the arts, entertainment, sports, faith and my family.  pretty much anything i'm passionate about at that particular moment in time.

"on the shoulders of giants" - the name.  comes from a quote that i found randomly.  i've long since forgotten who uttered these words... but to my recollection it went something like this...

"If I have seen further than others, it is because I've stood on the shoulders of giants."

i really took this idea to heart!  to me it exemplifies the idea of surrounding yourself with valuable people.  when you can assemble a team that excels in areas that are not your strongest... you exponentially increase your level of performance!

was that "text book" enough?  :)

this blog is a way for me to share a few of the random thoughts that fly through my head on a daily basis.  hopefully i'll have the ability to "translate" those mental-hiroglyphics in an entertaining enough fashion so that once you read it... you add me to your daily blog reader.

game on.
